The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is a Christian network of individuals and churches working together to spread the hope of Christ. Our diverse community includes partners all over the globe, and our fellowship supports a wide range of missions and ministries that give people meaningful opportunities to put their faith into action.
This week, CBF folk will gather together from all over the world for a time of mutual encouragement, challenge, and refreshment.
I remember my very first CBF General Assembly. I was a young church starter in the “Wild West.” I felt alone, isolated, and like I didn’t fit anywhere. I felt like our church was on an island and accordingly, I felt like I was on an island.
I hopped on a plane and flew to Dallas. That evening, I stood before the 1,500 gathered and was presented as a commissioned church starter. It was an overwhelming moment for me.
But the moment that the entire trajectory of my pastoral vocation changed was when Suzii Paynter, the executive director of CBF at the time, said, “These that are being commissioned are going with our full support and blessing. They are also going with our prayers.”
I was immediately covered with prayerful hands. The 1,500 gathered laid their hands upon me, at least those that could reach, and they prayed.
They prayed for me. They prayed for my church. They prayed for the mission of God.
In that moment, I knew that I was no longer alone and that I would never be alone again. I had found a family.
This week, I’m excited to spend some time with this family. I look forward to sharing with you all the encouragement that I’ve received.
Please keep me and Robin in your prayers throughout the week and know that we’ll be thinking of and missing you.
